Tanning Basics
Step One: Base Tan Builders
Beginning tanners with no or minimal base tan who have not yet reached their tanning plateau.
Step one products are scientifically formulated to help build a rich, golden-brown base tan as quickly as possible.
Step one products should be applied to the skin prior to each tanning session.
Step Two: Dark Tan Boosters
Advanced tanners with an existing base tan who have reached their tanning plateau.
Step two products are specifically formulated to condition the skin to break through the tanning plateau for deeper, darker results.
Step Two products should be applied to the skin immediately prior to each tanning session.
Step Three: Dark Tan Extenders
All tanner at all steps of the tanning process should also be using a Step Three product.
Three products are scientifically formulated with intense hydrating and tan-intensifying ingredients to preserve, protect, and extend the tan. These products enhance color, prevent peeling and replenish moisture.
Step Three products should be applied daily after bathing or showering and after each UV exposure.
General Questions
Tanning is your body’s natural defense to overexposure of UV rays. Tanning begins in the outermost layers of your skin and causes the cells on your skin to produce melanin. Once melanin is exposed to UVA rays, they darken and absorb the light, thus producing a tan.
A tanning plateau is a point when regular tanners have developed a base tan and are not getting significantly darker with each visit.
Soft bronzers are specifically designed for beginning tanners with a lighter complexion and/or no base tan to provide a natural-looking, sun kissed glow. Dark bronzers are specifically designed for advanced tanner with a darker complexion and/or an existing base tan to provide deep, dark, natural-looking color.
You need to completely exfoliate and shave prior to coming in. You also need to have the cleanest skin possible with no lotion on. This is to make sure there are no barriers between yourself and the solution.
After your sunless tan, you need to make sure to stay dry for at least 4-6 hours to allow the solution to set. After 6 hours you make take a shower using a moisture wash that is PH balanced, soap free, and contains no mineral oil or alcohol.
Depending on how well you take care of your Sunless tan, the color will start to fade after 7-10 days. It is important to stay moisturized after you spray with products that do not contain mineral oil or alcohol.
Hot Action products are for advanced tanners who like to experience a warming sensation during tanning and see a reddening effect on their skin after tanning. These products are not recommended for sensitive skin tanners. Hot Action products are available in a range of intensity-first time users should start with lower intensity products and slowly work their way up to a level they are comfortable using.
What they do: Products with Hot Action stimulate and increase micro-circulation of the skin for greater, more intense tanning results
How they should be used: Hot Action products should be applied to the skin immediately prior to tanning. A spot test is recommended prior to use.
Yes! Once you are in our computer system you are able to visit and use any of our salons.
Indoor tanning provides a controlled environment without the presence of UVC rays. Also, indoor tanning provides a large amount of Vitamin D. No matter the weather, you can always achieve your optimal results in as little as 10 minutes a day!
In order to protect yourself against overexposure, The Riviera Tanning Spa does not allow someone to tan more than once per day.
Yes! This is called a tanning cocktail. Tanning prior to your sunless session allows your pores to be opened up and for your sunless session to absorb into your skin more easily. When tanning prior to your sunless session, a tanning lotion without silicon is strongly recommended in order to keep skin free from any barriers to the sunless solution.
